Ongoing coaching is crucial for multiplication. Coaching takes place after you teach your disciple about Student DBS. It can occur weekly at first, but often moves to every other week, then monthly, and eventually on an as-needed basis. The coaching relationship, however, never ends. Coaching consists of three key elements:
Looking Back
Ask: "How did your last "I will" go? Discuss successes and obstacles to address any issues and celebrate progress.
Looking Up
Review Scripture, using resources like DBS Story Sets. Ask: “What does this passage say about God and man?” and “What does it reveal about disciple-making?” This helps to ground coaching in biblical principles and encourages reflection on spiritual insights.
Looking Ahead
Ask: "What is your next step?" Remind them of the steps: Pray, Find Person of Peace, Disciple and Coach. Have them formulate their answer as an "I will" statement. This ensures the disciple has a clear plan for action and continual growth.
This approach helps maintain focus, encourages ongoing development, and supports continual growth in disciple-making.
