SOGY stands for Support Others or Go Yourself. The goal of global disciple-making is that everyone would become SOGY— support others by partnering with mission agencies (or people) serving the unreached, or go yourself to the unreached.
For every person that goes, there is a team of supporters who stay behind. Roughly eighty percent of each mission team is composed of supporters. Think of an iceberg. What you see is supported by something much larger that you don't see.
There are two entities to support; ministries and workers. Ministries are mission agencies. Sometimes it's most effective to support a mission agency rather than an individual worker. Sometimes it's the opposite.
Workers are missionaries and include Americans who serve overseas (ex-pats) and internationals who serve in their own country. They are called national or indigenous workers.
There are various ways to support others. You can be a prayer partner, a financial partner, and maybe even make a well-planned visit.
There are progressive phases of going yourself. There are short term mission trips (lasting weeks), midterm mission trips (lasting months), and long term mission trips (lasting years).
