SEVEN QUESTIONS
That Are Changing the World
WEEK 1: awakening (chapters 1-6)
Theme: The right questions wake something up inside us.

1. What stood out to you in these opening chapters?
  • Think about a moment, a sentence, a character, or even a feeling that caught your attention and stayed with you. What made it stand out?

2. Everyone is asking big questions right now—about meaning, belonging, direction. Life may look “fine,” but inside, many feel empty, lonely, or unsure what they’re living for.
  • Does any part of that describe you?

3. Taliyah, a Muslim woman searching for answers. Darius, a former inmate learning what freedom feels like. Grant, an elderly widower aching for connection. Jordan, a worship leader, burned out by the weight of ministry. Isabel, a weary teacher carrying more than she can name. And Maya, a Gen Z influencer longing for truth and a place to belong.
  • Which character’s starting point feels closest to your own?

4. “What are you thankful for?”
  • What rises to the surface when you slow down long enough to answer?

5. “What’s stressful right now?”
  • What’s weighing on you beneath the surface?

6. Isabel admitted, “Lately it feels like no one’s listening. Not even God.”
  • Have you ever felt that way? What does silence tend to stir in you?

7. Grant answered the "What's stressful?" question, “The noise—political, cultural, digital—is exhausting.”
  • What kind of noise makes it hardest for you to hear your own heart?

8. Isabel wondered, “Jesus gave that young man what he needed most and what he wanted most. Can he do that for me?”
  • What do you need most right now? What do you want most?

9. Jordan said his deepest spiritual growth happened in homes—‘living rooms, kitchens, and food.’
  • Where have you experienced the most meaningful conversations in your life? What made them stick?

10. Jordan shared an “I will” that changed him—flying to Atlanta to wash Darius’s feet.
  • Why do you think saying something aloud in a group gives it weight? Has a small, brave step ever changed you?

11. Darius felt deeply seen—maybe for the first time in years.
  • When was the last time you felt truly seen?

12. Grant shared about his estranged son and the scars that remain.
  • Do you have familial scars? How have your own scars shaped the way you show up in relationships?

13. Grant described how one phrase—“You must receive Christ”—echoed until he responded.
  • Has a sentence, moment, or conversation ever echoed in your life like that?

Takeaway
  • You can’t change what you refuse to name—honest answers open the way.
week 2: belonging (chapters 7-13)
Theme: People heal and grow when they feel safe in a circle of trust.

1. What grabbed your attention in these chapters?
  • What moment or conversation stayed with you as you read? Why do you think that particular moment stood out?

2. Kwame handed facilitation to Grant—showing that guiding conversation can shift without losing momentum.
  • Who here might facilitate next week? What does rotating this role do for trust in a group?

3. Darius admitted that even “tough guys” need to be seen, valued, and cared for.
  • Where in your life have you needed that kind of affirmation? Who helps you feel seen when you’re not at your best?

4. Jordan described how his act of service was as healing for him as it was for Darius.
  • Have you ever done something that made no practical sense but felt deeply right? Why do you think obedience or love can transform the giver as much as the receiver?

5. One participant said, “I learned that doing matters as much as knowing.”
  • When have actions taught you more than information? Where do you sense God inviting you from knowledge into action?

6. Maya voiced an honest objection to the story, and Grant honored her question rather than shutting it down.
  • What does this teach us about not understanding Scripture on the first pass? Why is it better to let someone discover an answer than to correct them immediately?

7. Jordan highlighted the man in the story—restored, clothed, and changed—which sparked a conversation about transformation.
  • Where have you seen genuine change in yourself or others? What makes real change feel both hopeful and intimidating?

8. Another participant noted that Jesus brings peace to some and disruption to others.
  • Why do you think Jesus still provokes such mixed reactions? How have you personally experienced Jesus bringing comfort or disruption?
9. Grant reminded the group that reflection without action becomes sentiment, but reflection with resolve invites change.
  • What step might God be nudging you toward? What usually holds you back from taking the next step?

10, Jordan considered bringing prayer and presence into his everyday work.
  • Where might a simple “Can I pray for you?” open a door in your life? What fears come up when you think about offering prayer to someone?

12. Taliyah said she isn’t stuck anymore—even though she doesn’t have all her answers yet.
  • Where do you feel a small sense of movement or hope? What has helped you feel less stuck recently?

13. Darius observed that the group is getting better at answering the first question than the second.
  • Which questions feel natural for you? Which feel stretching? Why do you think obedience-based questions are often harder than discussion questions?

14. Isabel said she loves how the group nudges each other into new steps while still feeling personal and safe.
  • What helps you feel safe enough to grow in community? When have you felt gently nudged in a way that helped you grow?

15. One woman shared that she held onto the “worst” 20% of her sins until she realized Jesus forgives all of them.
  • Is there any part of your story that still feels hard to believe God fully forgives? What would freedom look like if you believed God’s forgiveness was total?

Takeaway:
  • Shared stories build a community more than shared beliefs.
week 3: DISCOVERING (CHAPTERS 14-20)
Theme: Scripture begins to speak as people encounter Jesus directly.

1. What did you notice that stayed with you from these chapters?
  • What moment or phrase lingered in your mind after reading? Why do you think it impacted you the way it did?

2. The group was introduced to Questions Six and Seven—obedience and sharing—simple steps that turn discovery into transformation.
  • What makes “I will” statements powerful rather than overwhelming? Who comes to mind when you think about sharing something you’ve learned?

3. One woman said, “I will ask God to forgive all my sins—and I will ask my children for forgiveness as well,” releasing a weight she’d carried for years.
  • Why is confession often the first doorway to healing? Have you ever felt the relief of taking a vulnerable step like that?

4. Taliyah quietly committed to return and read Romans, sensing both danger and desire in pursuing truth.
  • What emotions surface for you when you take a new spiritual step? Why do you think curiosity and fear often appear together?

5. Grant invited the whole group to New York, pulling strangers into shared tables, laughter, and belonging they didn’t expect.
  • How does hospitality deepen spiritual connection? When has someone’s generosity opened a door in your own life?

6. Maya asked, “Is this what heaven is like?” and Grant answered, “No—heaven is infinitely better.”
  • What do moments of beauty or belonging reveal about God’s character? Where have you glimpsed a small taste of heaven on earth?

7. Grant prayed, “If this is what it means to use what I have for Your Kingdom, let me spend my days this way.”
  • What resources or gifts might God be inviting you to use? How do you sense God nudging you to invest in others?

8. Kwame reassured Isabel, “You won’t be alone—you’re ready,” helping her step into a story she didn’t think she could lead.
  • When has someone believed in you more than you believed in yourself? What difference did their confidence make?

9. Darius described watching Kwame “go out among the lost” naturally—asking simple questions, listening, moving from life to spiritual things with ease.
  • Where could simple curiosity open a spiritual conversation for you? Why is it helpful to see real-life examples instead of just theory?

10. Jordan said his next step was to share Scripture with those he’d already been praying for, combining prayer with the Word.
  • Where might Scripture naturally fit into your existing relationships? What would a small, simple step look like for you this week?

11. Grant said, “We are witnesses to a movement of God’s Spirit—and participants in it.”
  • Where do you see signs of movement—in yourself, your group, or your relationships? What excites or unsettles you about being part of something bigger?

13. Taliyah received a message from her brother Samir—first with fear, then with shock as he said, “I, too, have questions. May I join you?”
  • What does this say about the courage it takes to explore faith in a tightly held religious family? What does it say about where spiritually curious people unexpectedly show up?

Takeaway
: Discovery creates conviction far more powerfully than explanation.
week 4: BECOMING (CHAPTERS 21-27)
Theme: Truth becomes transformation when obedience enters the story.

1. What surprised you from this week’s readings?
  • What moment made you pause, reconsider, or feel something unexpected? Why do you think that moment stood out to you?

2. Jordan told Darius to book the flight immediately—before fear or excuses could talk him out of obedience.
  • What helps you act quickly on something you know God is prompting? Where do you tend to hesitate until the moment passes?

3. When Marcus recognized Darius and crushed him in a long, healing embrace, years of emotional hunger broke open.
  • Why can reconciliation hit harder than we expect? Where have you felt starved for connection without realizing it?

4. Marcus asked why he hadn’t heard from Darius in years, and Darius admitted, “I felt worthless… hiding was easier than facing guilt.”
  • What emotions make you want to hide from the people you love? What does honest confession make possible?

5. Darius said, “The person I was behind bars isn’t the person I need to be now… I’m learning how to love, and how to be loved.”
  • Where do you feel caught between who you were and who you’re becoming? What new patterns feel hardest—but most important—in this season?

6. Taliyah said her brother asked, “Are you a Christian?” and she answered, “I don’t know.”
  • How would you answer this question, and upon what is your answer based? Where are you spiritually? Where do you still feel “in-between” in your own journey?

7. Maya worked hard to find an answer in Scripture—and discovered that the herdsmen valued profit over people.
  • Why do truths you discover yourself sink deeper than truths handed to you? What did you find in Scripture recently that surprised you?

8. A woman said she loves the stories but feels frustrated she’s not experiencing them personally.
  • What role does a "higher power" play in this? Have you ever felt like others were receiving something you weren’t? What helps you stay open rather than discouraged in those seasons?

9. Jordan reflected that money reveals the heart—Zacchaeus gave because he was changed from the inside out.
  • Where has inner change shown up in your own actions or priorities? Why do you think money is such a reliable indicator of the heart?

10. One participant shared a ten-second testimony: “I’m not a believer yet, but I’m thankful God doesn’t give up on people like me.”
  • Where are you seeing small signs of spiritual awakening in yourself or others? How does being in a safe group change the way you view God?

11. Grant sensed the Holy Spirit whisper, “Your prayers have been heard. The matter will soon be resolved,” lifting years of heaviness.
  • When have you sensed God easing a burden you’d carried? What “matter” in your life still needs God’s resolution?

12. Jordan began discipling a couple who had just lost a child—timing he now understood as God’s mercy.
  • Where have you seen God’s timing make sense only in hindsight? What step of obedience brought unexpected joy?

13. A woman said she joined angry, wanting to prove Christians were awful—yet now, though she’s still gay, she’s no longer angry.
  • Where have you experienced unexpected softening in your heart? How does God’s kindness sometimes lead us without pressure or arguments?

Takeaway:
  • A small “I will” step can reroute an entire life.
week 5: multiplying (chapters 28-epilogue)
Theme: Ordinary people help others take the same journey they’ve taken.

1. What stayed with you from these closing chapters?
  • What moment or insight lingered in your heart? Why do you think it mattered to you?

2. Isabel reflected on Jesus asking, “What do you want?” and said her answer had shifted—from needing refreshment to wanting Jesus Himself.
  • When has God moved you from wanting relief to wanting relationship? How would you answer Jesus’ question today?

3. Isabel then asked the group, “Why is it important to be given a ‘come and see’ invitation?” and responses poured in.
  • Why do people need a safe place before they decide what they believe? Who in your life might need a gentle “come and see”?

4. A middle-aged man said the group felt like an oasis after wandering spiritually for years.
  • Where have you tasted spiritual refreshment after a long dry season? What made that space feel safe for you?

5. Darius realized he truly believed after reading John’s Gospel on his own—Scripture turning truth into certainty.
  • When has Scripture suddenly become clear or personal for you? What makes self-discovery so powerful in spiritual growth?

6. Taliyah said she’s still unsure, yet her “I will” was to keep meeting with Samir and keep reading Romans—honest, brave, reluctant obedience.
  • Where in your own journey do you feel both desire and hesitancy? How do you keep moving forward when you’re not fully certain?

7. Darius described Scripture as the “clearest, loudest voice” in his life, turning all other noise into background.
  • What helps you quiet competing voices so you can hear God? Where are you experiencing clarity you didn’t have before?

8. Kwame modeled a prayer walk for a potential new leader—and by the end, the leader was doing it himself.
  • Where might you model something for someone who is almost ready to lead? Who could you bring with you into a simple step of obedience?

9. Taliyah found “the needle” in Romans 3:22 and said, “I get this. This is true. And I believe it.” She called herself “the world’s most reluctant believer.”
  • What truth finally clicked for you in your spiritual journey? Where do you still feel pulled—gently, quietly—toward belief?

10. Grant reflected on how Jesus invited some into salvation and others into mission, sensing Jesus telling him, “Join Me in My work.”
  • Where do you sense Jesus inviting you to join Him rather than simply observe? What part of His mission feels most accessible to you right now?

11. A young software engineer said she sees brilliant people crumbling under unseen burdens, noticing that everyone is a theologian—even those who reject God.
  • Where do you see hidden spiritual hunger in people around you? How might God want to use your workplace as a mission field?

12. Kwame reminded them, “This isn’t the end—it’s a beginning. What God has started is meant to continue through you.”
  • Where do you see the potential for new groups or new conversations? What might multiplying look like in your own circle?

Takeaway:
  • Movements grow when people obey what they discover and invite others to do the same.
