Jerusalem - Damascus Gate Called the Shechem Gate by the Jews, the Arabs remember this gate as the "Gate of the Column" because of the tall pillar that stood in this gate's plaza during the Roman and Byzantine period. Kenyon's excavations underneath this Turkish gate found remnants of a triple-arched gateway dating to the time of the Roman Emperor Hadrian (135 A.D.).

Jerusalem - Temple Mount Southern Wall Mikveh for ceremonial washings and was most probably used for the first day of Jesus' church on Pentecost Day when 3,000 souls were baptized into Christ (Acts 2) - Cleansing from impurity took place in a ritual bath, a mikvah. These ritual baths could not be filled with a bucket. They had to be filled with "living" (naturally flowing) water. For many of these baths, such as those in the ritual bath buildings at the entrance to the Temple, this meant rainwater--water from heaven--a heavenly cleansing

Jerusalem - Temple Mount Western Wall near Southwest Corner Inscription on a Stone thrown down from the top of the Temple Mount - "To the place of trumpeting...," was discovered during B. Mazar's excavations. It probably served to indicate where a priest would stand to blow the trumpet to begin and end the Sabbath. Josephus explained the procedure: "And the last [tower] was erected above the roof of the Priest's Chambers, where it was the custom for one of the priests to stand and to give notice, by the sound of a trumpet, in the afternoon of the approach, and on the following evening of the close, of every seventh day, announcing to the people the respective hours for ceasing work and for resuming their labors" (War 4.582-83). The southeast corner of the Temple Mount wall is known as "the pinnacle" of the Temple, towering 216 feet over the rocky ground below. In Jesus’ day when Solomon’s Portico stood atop this place, this corner may have been as much as 50 feet higher than it is today. It was here that the second temptation of Christ took place: And he [satan] led Him to Jerusalem and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here; for it is written, He will give His angels charge concerning You, to guard You, and on their hands they will bear You up, lest You strike Your foot against a stone." And Jesus answered and said to him, "It is said, You shall not put the Lord your God to the test." (Luke 4:9-12; Deut. 6:16).
