Discovery Study 2 is optimal for a group that has already experienced Discovery Study 1 or is looking for a more in-depth interaction with Scripture. Remember, A Discovery Study works best in small groups where conversation is natural. The goal of a Discovery Study is meaningful discussion about the truths of Scripture. It is NOT an in-depth examination of the Bible. Rather, it’s a group conversation leading to self-discovery. Here are the steps:
Step 1. Discover a nugget.
A nugget is a timeless truth or key thought from a passage of Scripture. It’s a word, phrase, statement that is as true today as it was when it was first given in Scripture. It can be a word, phrase, sentence or part of a verse. The smaller the better.
Step 2. Develop a list of questions.
Use what, why, how, when, where, and who as prompts. Ask for an explanation for yes or no questions. Don't over think this step. Simple questions can produce deep results. Step 3. Discuss the questions.
Talk about them in any order. Don’t feel constrained to answer all the questions.
